The Long Way Westward is the sequel to The Long Way to a New Land. Here we follow a Swedish family from New York, where they have just arrived as emigrants, across America to Minnesota. There a relative waits for them, with a home and work. Along the way they are helped by other Swedish emigrants, and encounter some difficulties while learning to adjust to living in a new land.
